When
I first loaded up Jedi Knight (JK), my first reaction
was amazement at the wonderful Star Wars universe that
LucasArts had created. However, soon afterward I began to
sense a grave disturbance in my fun. What was it? I'll give
you a clue. Before these games, had anyone ever heard of the
"Rail Detonator" in the Star Wars universe? How about
the "Imperial Repeater Rifle"? Or my favorite, the "Bryar
Pistol"? No? Me either. Not only were the names of these weapons
new, but they were like nothing I'd seen, nor heard of, in
any any of the Star Wars movies. Aside from
the lightsaber, BlasTech Pistol, Storm Trooper Rifle, and
the Thermal Detonator, the weapons in JK and Mysteries
of the Sith (MotS) just didn't give me that lovin' Star
Wars feelin'. They seemed a little too "game-ish" for
my taste, both in their modeling and their firing effects.
Specifically, the game guns didn't have that same lethal
look to them. Whereas the movie weapons, modeled on actual
military hardware, were typically black, occasionally
with chrome or wood highlighting, and had that authentic look
to them that made you believe they were real. Conversely,
the game guns were typically gray, often highlighted with
yellow, red, gold, or brown. They felt like non-Star Wars
toy guns, to me.
Now, before the guy in the back of the room blows a motivator,
let me diffuse the situation by admitting that, yes, these
are just games, and realism should take a back seat
to fun. But, why not use the plethora of existing weapons
we've seen and heard of in the immense Star Wars universe
as a starting point, rather than creating brand new, unfamiliar
weapons? This would easily add to the realism and immersion
without sacrificing any of the fun. After doing a little research,
I've discovered that for most of the invented game weapons,
there are corresponding real Star Wars weapons from
the movies or Expanded Universe that could be used instead.
Not coincidentally, we shall explore the weapons of Star
Wars in this week's column. Although, rather than me attempting
to persuade you one way or another, I suggest you all reach
your own conclusions on this matter. But I urge you to first
peruse through the research I've accumulated below. Each authentic
Star Wars weapon has a brief description, my own observations,
and many have images and technical specifications. When exact
technical specs weren't available, I made my best guess, and
marked the attribute with an asterisk (*).
Imagine to yourselves which of these weapons you'd like to
see in Jedi Knight II (JKII). Which could better fill
the role of an existing "game-ish" weapon? Which have you
secretly wished you could brandish in a firefight? Think about
it. Talk amongst yourselves. The answers to these questions
await you in The Armory:
Battle Droid Carbine Type: Blaster Scale: Carbine Range: 150 meters* Fire-Rate: Repeating* Ammo: 500 rounds* Used By: Trade Federation Battle Droid Comments: This rapid-fire carbine is one of the best
looking Episode I blasters. It may be a viable alternative
model for the Imperial Repeater Rifle, although I'd
prefer something from the original-trilogy era.
BlasTech DH-17 Blaster Pistol Type: Blaster, Stun Scale: Pistol Range: 120 meters (blaster), 25 meters (stun) Fire-Rate: Repeating (blaster), Semi-Automatic (stun) Ammo: 500 rounds. Used By: Rebel Fleet Trooper, Death Star Trooper Comments: This weapon is an easily recognizable Star
Wars staple, and has always been one of my aesthetic favorites.
Functionally, however, it doesn't operate significantly different
than the BlasTech E-11 Blaster Rifle.
BlasTech DL-18 Mos Eisley Special Type: Blaster Scale: Pistol Range: 40 meters* Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic* Ammo: 100 rounds* Used By: Jabba's Guards, Underworld Types* Comments: Even though this gun doesn't exactly give
me the vapors, it does have a strong history in the movies,
and is likely the kind of weapon that lower-rung underworld-types
would carry.
BlasTech DLT-19 Heavy Blaster Rifle Type: Blaster Scale: Rifle Range: 300 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic* Ammo: 250 rounds* Used By: Storm Trooper, Sand Trooper Comments: Nice looking weapon that probably packs quite
a punch. With the addition of a scope, perhaps the DLT-19
could also function as a sniper rifle.
BlasTech DLT-20A Pulse Cannon Type: Blaster / Plasma* Scale: Light Cannon* Range: 200 meters* Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic* Ammo: 100 rounds* Used By: IG-88 Comments: If any true Star Wars weapon screamed,
"I am the real concussion rifle", this is it. Look
at it - it's a pulse cannon. Do you know what that is? Do
you? Well, I don't, but it sure sounds like a concussion rifle.
Plus, this gun just looks way cool. And you know if IG-88
used it, it's got to be bad. I'd love to see this gun make
its way into JKII.
BlasTech T-21 Light Repeating Blaster Type: Blaster Scale: Light Repeating Rifle Range:300 meters Fire-Rate: Repeating Ammo: 500 rounds* Used By: Sand Trooper Comments: Even though I never saw one of these in action
during the Star Wars movies, it's always been one of
my favorites. It just looks so big and bad, it gives off that,
"Don't make me get up out of this chair", vibe. This too would
be a great gun to make an appearance in JKII.
BlasTech DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol Type: Blaster Scale: Pistol Range: 50 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 25 rounds Used By: Han Solo Comments: This is, hands down, one of the coolest,
if not the coolest blaster pistol in all the Star
Wars movies. If I had to pick a default blaster, this
would be my choice. Come on, be honest. Would it be more fun
to respawn with the "Bryar Pistol" (whatever the heck that
is), or the "BlasTech DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol"? You know
you want it.
BlasTech E-11 Blaster Rifle Type: Blaster, Stun Scale: Rifle Range: 300 meters (blaster), 25 meters (Stun)* Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic (blaster), Semi-Automatic
(stun) Ammo: 100 rounds Used By: Storm Trooper, Sand Trooper, Snow Trooper Comments: If you're going to have Storm Troopers in
a game, then you pretty much have to have this gun too. It's
a fine looking, adequately deadly weapon. Implementing the
stun setting that we all know it has, into JKII, would make
for some interesting gameplay.
BlasTech EE-3 Blaster Rifle Type: Blaster Scale: Rifle Range: 150 meters* Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic* Ammo: 200 rounds* Used By: Boba Fett Comments: Being the preferred blaster for the most
renown bounty hunter in the galaxy says something about this
weapon. Functionally, it's probably not too different from
the BlasTech E-11, although this gun probably doesn't have
a stun setting. Or does it?
BlasTech E-Web Repeating Blaster Type: Blaster Scale: Medium Repeating Blaster* Range: 500 meters Fire-Rate: Repeating Ammo: Unlimited (requires power generator) Used By: Snow Trooper, Imperial Military Units Comments: A very cool looking, and terrifyingly deadly
weapon. It probably would be very difficult to move this gun
around a map by yourself, if at all. Perhaps one person would
need to carry the gun part, while another would carry the
generator. Once at the desired location they would shake and
bake, and presto!, they could dish out some big, pain
sandwiches. This monster would be an excellent defensive hardpoint
for multiplayer assault maps. Lastly, if drivable vehicles
are included in JKII, a vehicular-mounted version would be
a welcome addition.
Czerka Vibro Knuckler Type: Melee Scale: Blade Range: 1 meter Used By: Underworld Types* Comments: For those of you who don't know, a "vibro"
weapon is just like its non-vibro cousins, except for one
important detail. A vibro weapon's blade is vibrated at a
very high rate, allowing it to slice effortlessly through
stone, skin, or bone, as the case may be. This particular
weapon is very similar to brass knuckles, with the addition
of a vibro-blade across the front, rather than ordinary metal.
So if you were wearing these and some punk started giving
you a hard time, you could jack him in the face through the
other side of his head. Gruesome? Yes. Effective? Definitely.
This could be the starting melee weapon in multiplay, for
certain "personalities", during class-based games. (image unavailable)
Czerka ZX Wrist Flamer Type: Flame Thrower Scale: Wrist-Mounted Range: 5 meters* Blast Cone: 5 meters Fire-Rate: Automatic Ammo: 3 six-second blasts*, 50 six-second blasts (with
gas canister) Used By: Boba Fett Comments: I've always wanted a flamethrower of some
kind in a Star Wars first-person shooter (FPS). Whether
this particular model fits the bill is open for debate. Perhaps
a flame rifle would be better. Since this weapon has such
a short range, it could prove very effective against Jedi. (image unavailable)
Doctor Evazan Gun Type: Blaster Scale: Pistol Range: 40 meters* Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 40 rounds* Used By: Dr. Evazan Comments: Even though this is yet another blaster pistol,
and I don't even know its make and model, I think it just
looks really cool. Functionally, it's probably very similar
to the BlasTech DL-44, but I found this image of Dr. Evazan's
main piece, so what the heck, here it is.
Drearian Defense Conglomerate Defender ANH Type: Blaster Scale: Pistol Range: 60 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 50 Used By: Leia Organa Comments:Interestingly, there are two models of Leia's
sidearm. This version is from Episode IV: A New Hope.
Notice the very long, slender barrel. This could be a replacement
for the Bryar Pistol, but I prefer the other version of this
weapon.
Drearian Defense Conglomerate Defender ROTJ Type: Blaster Scale: Pistol Range: 60 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 50 Used By: Leia Organa Comments: This version of the DDC Defender Sporting
Blaster is from Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. It's
barrel is noticeably shorter, resulting in a more practical
weapon. If the BlasTech DL-44 is not used as the default weapon
for JKII, then this version of the DDC Defender would be my
next choice. It's a fairly modest weapon, that we all recognize,
from the Star Wars universe.
Gaderffi Type: Melee Scale: Staff Range: 2 meters* Used By: Sand People Comments: Your traditional set of quad axe-blades set
on a big spike-stick with a heavy, pointed club on the other
end. Just the thing to shoo out those unwanted guests. Perhaps
this could also be the starting melee weapon in multiplay,
for certain "personalities", during class-based games.
Golan Arms FCI Flechette Launcher Type: Flechette Scale: Rifle Range: 250 meters Blast Area: 10 meters (anti-personnel), 5 meters (anti-vehicular) Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic* Ammo: 12 rounds Used By: Various Militias* Comments: A flechette launcher shoots a special projectile
toward a target. When the projectile is only a few meters
from the target, the projectile explodes, releasing hundreds
of razor-sharp flechettes, shredding objects unfortunate enough
to be in the blast area. Projectiles come in anti-personnel
and anti-vehicular flavors. This could be a very fun weapon
to use as well, although I'm not sure that it feels like a
Star Wars weapon. (image unavailable)
Golan Arms RL-40 Stun Net Launcher Pistol Type: Net Scale: Pistol Range: 30 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic* Ammo: 10 rounds Used By: Bounty Hunters*, Various Militias* Comments: A launched net wraps around the target in
a stun cocoon that is nearly impossible to escape from. Once
the target stops moving the net releases its grip. This weapon
would be a good to immobilize targets. However, perhaps the
rifle version would be better. (image unavailable)
Golan Arms RGL-80A Electronet Grenade Launcher Type: Net Scale: Rifle Range: 500 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic* Ammo: 5 rounds Used By: Bounty Hunters*, Various Militias* Comments: Works like the RL-40, but with far greater
range at the expense of less ammunition. This is the version
I would prefer to see in JKII. However, there are several
immobilizing weapons described in the armory, so one would
be sufficient for JKII. (image unavailable)
Greedo Gun Type: Blaster Scale: Pistol Range: 30 meters* Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 50 rounds Used By: Greedo Comments: There are likely some Greedo fans out there,
so here's his weapon of choice. It's a pretty good looking
blaster, that potentially could have changed galactic history
if Han Solo hadn't been so quick on the draw. The make and
model of this gun are unknown.
Jawa Blaster Type: Blaster Scale: Carbine Range: 50 meters* Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 50 rounds* Used By: Jawas Comments: Not to be confused with the Jawa Ionization
Gun, this is a true blaster. How it works is something of
a mystery. But if I had to guess I'd say it's probably fairly
unstable, being of Jawa manufacture, and has a fairly small
range and ammo capacity. However, being a weapon for use in
the badlands of Tatooine, it is very likely that this unseemly
gun packs quite a punch.
Jawa Ionization Gun Type: Ion Scale: Carbine Range: 12 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 6 rounds* Used By: Jawas Comments: This is the Jawa gun that most of us are
familiar with. Although it has a short range, this gun is
excellent for immobilizing droids and other various mechanical
devices. Its effect on organics is less impressive, typically
resulting with the target experiencing an unpleasant burning
sensation. This is frequently followed by the target returning
a hail of blaster fire.
Kelvarek Consolidated Arms MM9 Rocket System Type: Rocket Scale: Rifle Range: 25 meters Blast Area: 5-10 meters* Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 5 Used By: Various Militias* Comments: This, according to my research, would be
the equivalent of the familiar rocket launcher. Although the
official technical specs limit the range and ammo capacity,
for game purposes I would expect some adjustments to make
this weapon for fun in JKII. There are an assortment of rockets
available, such as (1) explosive, (2) nerve agent - makes
target unconscious, (3) stun gas - again, immobilizes target,
(4) ion blast - great for droids, (5) luma - initially blinds
targets, then lights up an darkened area for a period of time,
and (6) poison - slowly drains health for the target. (image unavailable)
Lightsaber Type: Melee Scale: Saber Range: 2 meters Used By: Jedi, Dark Jedi, Sith Comments: This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not
a clumsy or random as a blaster. An elegant weapon for a more
civilized time. Obviously the lightsaber will be in JKII,
but I'm also hoping that in multiplay we have a choice, not
only of blade colors but also of lightsaber handles. I was
lucky to find images of several lightsabers from the Star
Wars movies, which are shown below.
Adi Gallia:
Qui-Gon Jinn:
Obi-Wan Kenobi ANH:
Obi-Wan Kenobi TPM:
Ki-Adi-Mundi:
Luke Skywalker ANH:
Luke Skywalker ROTJ:
Darth Vader:
Mace Windu:
Yoda:
Lightstave Type: Melee Scale: Staff Range: 3 meters Used By: Jedi, Dark Jedi, Sith Comments: This is similar to a lightsaber, except it
has a blade extending from each end of the handle. This too
would be a fun weapon to use in the game. It would handle
differently than a normal lightsaber, but this variety could
increase the replayability of JKII.
Darth Maul:
Malaxan Firepower Incorporated FWG-5 Flechette Pistol Type: Flechette Scale: Pistol Range: 100 meters Blast Area: 2 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 8 rounds Used By: Various Militias*, Underworld Types * Comments: Works like the Golan Arms FCI Flechette Launcher,
except on a smaller scale. The FWG-5 only fires anti-personnel
rounds, however. Given a choice between this on the FCI, I'd
choose the Launcher over the Pistol. (image unavailable)
Mennotor DAS-430 Neural Inhibitor Type: Special* Scale: Carbine* Range: 30 meters* Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic* Ammo: 10 rounds* Used By: IG-88 Comments: Aside from this looking like a chrome BlasTech
E-11, I have no idea what this gun does. Purely speculating,
from the name I presume that this weapon inhibits the neurons
of the target. Does this mean it works like the "Jedi Mind
Trick"? If so, this could prove useful in multiplayer games
when playing as a non-Jedi. Maybe it stuns or incapacitates
the target. Maybe it allows you to control the target for
a short period of time. It's anybody's guess as to how this
weapon works, but it's definitely one of the more interesting
items I've come across. Too bad it looks so similar to the
E-11.
Merr-Sonn 7-PrG Proton Grenade Type: Explosive Scale: Grenade Blast Area: 5-10 meters* Used By: Han Solo Comments: These are the charges that Han Solo used
to blow up the shield generator in Episode VI: Return of
the Jedi. In my opinion, I would much rather see these
in JKII, than the sequencer charges. Functionally they could
behave the same, but be modeled as the PrG grenade that we're
all familiar with.
Merr-Sonn Bothan Stun Spore Grenade Type: Explosive Scale: Grenade Range: 5-10 meters* Used By: Apparently Bothans* Comments: This non-lethal grenade disorients targets
and can render them unconscious. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn C-22 Flame Carbine Type: Flame Thrower Scale: Carbine Range: 7 meters Blast Cone: 5 meters Fire-Rate: Automatic Ammo: 10 six-second blasts Used By: Various Militias* Comments: Just a regular flame thrower carbine. Nothing
inspiring, in my opinion. The C-24, the big brother to this
gun, looks more interesting. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn C-22 Fragmentation Grenade Type: Explosive Scale: Grenade Blast Area: 10 meters Used By: Various Militias*, Underworld Types* Comments: Your standard fragmentation grenade. Explodes
with shrapnel, and has a magnetic grapple for precise demolition
work. Can also be thrown. I prefer the Merr-Sonn 7-PrG Proton
Grenade. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn C-24 Flame Rifle Type: Flame Thrower Scale: Rifle Range: 10 meters Blast Cone: 5 meters Fire-Rate: Automatic Ammo: 25 six-second blasts Used By: Various Militias* Comments: A respectable, mobile flamethrower weapon.
Given my choice of the flame thrower weapons in this repository,
this one stands out is my favorite. It's not too weak, but
also not overpowering. It could prove quite handy in a pinch. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn C-28 Flame Cannon (Vehicular Mounted) Type: Flame Thrower Scale: Vehicle Range: 20 meters Blast Cone: 5 meters Fire-Rate: Automatic Ammo: 50 six-second blasts Used By: Various Militias* Comments:Presuming that drivable vehicles are in JKII,
this vehicle-mounted flamethrower could be a heck of a lot
of fun. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn Class-A Thermal Detonator Type: Explosive Scale: Grenade Blast Area: 5 meters Used By: Bouush Comments: This familiar weapon from the movies made
an appearance in JK and MotS, although many, myself included,
felt it was far under-powered, not matching the apparently
threat we observed in Jabba's throne room. According to my
research, everything in the blast area is completely vaporized,
while anything outside is left unharmed. If implemented this
way in JKII, it could provide lots of fun for everyone.
Merr-Sonn FEX-M3 Grenade Type: Explosive Scale: Grenade Blast Area: 10 meters* Used By: Various Militias*, Underworld Types* Comments: The nerve agent FEX-M3 is released in billowing
yellow clouds, and can cause death to targets in 10 seconds.
This has possibilities for flushing people out of camping
spots or pillboxes. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn Glop Grenade Type: Explosive Scale: Grenade Blast Area: 10 meters Used By: Various Militias*, Bounty Hunters* Comments: Sprays an adhesive foam throughout the blast
area, trapping the targets. This is yet another immobilizing
device, although I believe that there are more interesting
alternatives. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn GRS-1 Snare Rifle Type: Spray Scale: Rifle Range: 150 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 10 rounds* Used By: Zuckuss Comments: Shoots a shockstun mist, up to 150 meters
away, into a thick, translucent spraynet webbing, which confines
the stunned target. This weapon would be an excellent substitute
for the Carbonite Gun from MotS, and provide
house of fun-filled enjoyment. No self-respecting bounty hunter
should be without one. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn Luma Grenade Type: Explosive Scale: Grenade Blast Area: Special Used By: Various Militias*, Bounty Hunters*, Underworld
Types* Comments: Upon detonation, the Luma Grenade blinds
any targets looking in its direction. After the initial blast,
the Luma Grenade continues to glow, lighting darkened areas
for an extended period of time. This weapon is interesting
because it has both an offensive and a benign use. Having
such a device could be very fun in JKII. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn MSD-32 Disruptor Pistol Type: Disruptor Scale: Pistol Range: 7 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 10 Recycle Time: 3 seconds Used By: Various Militias*, Underworld Types*, Mercenaries* Comments: Disruptor beams break down an object at the
molecular leaving behind a pile of ash. A disruptor weapon
would be an interesting weapon to use in JKII, although I
believe there are better disruptors than this particular model
to choose from. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn Plank Gas Grenade Type: Explosive Scale: Grenade Blast Area: 10 meters* Used By: Underworld Types*, Mercenaries* Comments: The gas released from this grenade is highly
corrosive to both mechanical and biological beings. This has
some promise for a game weapon, but given the limited number
of grenade that we will likely have, I would prefer some more
interesting options for JKII. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn PLX-2M Missile Launcher Type: Rocket Scale: Rifle Range: 50 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 6 (Arakyd 313 missiles with mini-proton warheads) Used By: Various Militias* Comments: Can be dumb-fired or in tracking-mode. This
weapon is effective against speeder, starfighters, and can
also cause significant damage to Imperial walkers. This could
come in very handy if we need to knock out some enemy vehicles.
I'm curious as to how effective it would be as an anti-personnel
weapon. If implemented in JKII, the technical specs might
need to be tweaked. Six warheads doesn't seem like enough
ammo, in my opinion. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn Smoke Grenade Type: Explosive Scale: Grenade Blast Area: 20 meters* Used By: Various Militias*, Bounty Hunters*, Mercenaries* Comments: This would be a very handy grenade for JKII,
although it has the potential to be abused, putting a damper
on the gameplay. However, if handled properly, this could
be a very fun and useful grenade to have in your arsenal.
When you need to cross the street in plain view of snipers,
just toss out a smoke grenade. Or maybe you're just pretending
to cross the street so you can figure out where the snipers
are hiding as they blindly fire into the expanding cloud of
smoke. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn Stun Baton Type: Melee Scale: Saber Range: 2 meters* Used By: Corporate Sector Authority , Various Militias*,
Bounty Hunters* Comments: This is a weapon that has been announced
for JKII. As the name implies, it stuns targets. This would
definitely be useful, although a ranged immobilizing weapon
is my preference. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn T-238 Grenade Type: Explosive Scale: Grenade Blast Area: 10 meters* Used By: Various Militias*, Underworld Types* Comments: The chemical T-238 invokes extreme nausea
in its organic victims, temporarily immobilizing them, or
at the very least, reducing their capacity to function. This
could be kind of fun. Even though it doesn't kill anyone,
if you exposed someone to one of these, they would run slower,
jump lower, and aim less accurately. At least until it wore
off. Might be fun just to torture people with. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn Treppus-2 Vibro Blade Type: Melee Scale: Blade Range: 1 meter* Used By: Underworld Types* Comments: A typical vibro-weapon, except in at a knife
scale. In game terms, this weapon is no different than the
Czerka Vibro Knuckler. However, if forced to choose, I'd probably
pick this since it's more obvious to everyone as to what weapon
you're wielding. (image unavailable)
Merr-Sonn WW-41 Cryoban Grenade Type: Explosive Scale: Grenade Blast Area: 10 meters Used By: Bounty Hunters*, Underworld Types* Comments: This grenade is in the same genus as the
controversial Carbonite Gun, from MotS. However, while the
Carbonite Gun gave you a fighting chance, this weapon appears
to be less forgiving. All that's required is to heave this
baby, and anyone unfortunate enough to be in the blast radius
is frozen solid. An addition to freezing targets, this weapon
can also be used to extinguish fires within its blast area.
Multipurpose weapons such as this and the Luma Grenade are
very interesting to me as game weapons. (image unavailable)
Pacnorval Defense System, Limited SD-77 Sonic Pistol Type: Sonic Scale: Pistol Range: 15 meters* Blast Cone: 5 meters Fire-Rate: Automatic Ammo: 20 rounds* Used By: Various Militias*, Bounty Hunters* Comments: This weapon shoots a sonic blast at targets
within its blast cone. On its lethal setting, sonic vibrations
tear at the target's structure. On a lower setting, targets
are merely stunned. Since this is a sonic weapon, it is useless
in a vacuum. A pretty interesting weapon, but the SG-82 sounds
even better. (image unavailable)
Pacnorval Defense System, Limited SG-82 Sonic Rifle Type: Sonic Scale: Rifle Range: 35 meters Blast Cone: 5 meters Fire-Rate: Automatic Ammo: 50 rounds* Used By: Boba Fett, Various Militias*, Bounty Hunters* Comments: Works like the SD-77, but with more range
and a larger ammo capacity. Boba Fett is rumored to have used
a sonic beam weapon. Could the SG-82 have been it? This is
definitely the kind of instrument a bounty hunter would find
useful. This is another weapon that could prove to be quite
fun in JKII. (image unavailable)
Relby-V10 Micro Grenade Launcher Type: Explosive Scale: Rifle Range: 100 meters* Blast Area: 2 meters* Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic* Ammo: 200 micro grenades* Used By: Bossk Comments: Aside from the name, I have no idea how this
weapon works, so let's speculate. A gun that fires micro-grenades
sounds almost like a blaster that has blast area component.
If so, this weapon could quickly become a favorite among JKII
players, if it were implemented in the game.
SoroSuub BD-1 Cutter Vibro-Ax Type: Melee Scale: Staff Range: 3 meters* Used By: Underworld Types* Comments: This is a vibro-blade on a big stick. It
probably wouldn't be very useful against a lightsaber, but
against other melee weapons, this one would have a definite
advantage due to its long reach. Again, for multiplay class-based
games, I'd love it if each class had it's own melee weapon.
Heck, maybe there could be a melee-weapon-only game mode.
That would be fun, kind of like Rune meets Star Wars.
SoroSuub Force Pike Controller FP Type: Melee Scale: Pike Range: 4 meters* Used By: Imperial Guards*, Various Militias* Comments: On its non-lethal setting, the FP can stun
targets, while on its lethal setting it behaves like any other
vibro weapon - slicing through dense materials aided by ultra-frequency
vibrations. (image unavailable)
Stokhli Spray Stick Type: Spray Scale: Rifle Range: 200 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic* Ammo: 10 rounds Used By: Underworld Types*, Bounty Hunters* Comments: This weapon sprays a net on its targets as
well as a stun charge. So not only are you immobilized, but
you're also unconscious. Sounds pretty viscous to me, and
just the kind of thing a bounty hunter would want to use.
Although, if you've been paying attention, I've uncovered
an awful lot of immobilizing weapons during my research. My
thought is that one or two stun weapons need to be selected
for JKII, not an entire arsenal. (image unavailable)
Tatooine Gun Type: Blaster Scale: Pistol Range: 40 meters* Fire-Rate: Automatic* Ammo: 200 rounds* Used By: Underworld Types* Comments: Another blaster pistol for your viewing pleasure.
This ambiguously titled weapon looks really cool, and could
conceivably been modified for automatic fire. Who knows? Anyway,
I don't think it should be in JKII, but its aesthetic beauty
is worth admiring.
Tenloss DX-2 Disruptor Pistol Type: Disruptor Scale: Pistol Range: 7 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 5 rounds Recycle Time: 5 seconds Used By: Underworld Types* Comments: Since disruptors are banned throughout the
galaxy due to their grisly manner, they can only be found
on the black market. While the DX-2 is a fine weapon, the
DXR-6 is even better. (image unavailable)
Tenloss DXR-6 Disruptor Rifle Type: Disruptor Scale: Rifle Range: 20 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 5 rounds Recycle Time: 5 seconds Used By: Underworld Types* Comments: Sporting increased range, the DXR-6 is the
perfect weapon for those pesky assassination jobs. This weapon
could be fairly fun in JKII. Of course, if I had my way, there
would probably 50 weapons in the game. (image unavailable)
Valken-38 Blaster Carbine Type: Blaster Scale: Carbine Range: 350 meters* Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic* Ammo: 300 rounds* Used By: Dengar Comments: This is the primary weapon that the notorious
bounty hunter Dengar prefers to use. To be quite honest, this
weapon doesn't appear significantly different than the BlasTech
DLT-19 Heavy Blaster Rifle. As such, I'd rather see the DLT-19
make an appearance in JKII, than the Valken-38.
Wookie Bowcaster Type: Bowcaster Scale: Rifle Range: 50 meters Fire-Rate: Semi-Automatic Ammo: 6 rounds Used By: Chewbaca, Various Wookies* Comments: This is the famous weapon of Chewbaca the
Wookie. The Bowcaster that we saw in JK and MotS didn't really
look right, to me. I know that it wasn't a "true" Bowcaster,
and that it was modified by the Sand People, but still, it
had green bolts, and just didn't seem to behave like Chewie's
did. If the Bowcaster is indeed to make an appearance in JKII,
I hope it makes a triumphant return, modeled properly, as
shown here.
Wookie Ryyk Blades Type: Melee Scale: Saber Range: 2 meters* Fire-Rate: Used By: Various Wookies* Comments: From the sketch I saw in the technical guide,
these weapons come in pairs, the wielder holding one in each
hand. But rather than looking like a traditional sword, the
user grasps the pistol-like grip, and the blade surface extends
90 degree from that, running along the Wookie's arm from the
elbow to slightly before the wrist. It could be a fun weapon
to use in a no-guns game. (image unavailable)
